Savita (the Sun as inspirer)
Gayatri Mantra
The most widely recited Vedic mantra, a verse of the Rigveda (3.62.10) in the Gayatri metre addressed to Savita, the inspiring aspect of the Sun. It is preceded by Om and the three vyahritis, Bhur, Bhuvah and Svah, as it is commonly recited. It is chanted at dawn, noon and dusk as part of sandhya, and at the sacred thread ceremony.
This recording repeats the mantra many times, as in japa, so it is longer than one recitation.
Played from the artist's or label's own YouTube channel. Recordings often sing extra verses or a slightly different wording from the text shown here.
