What it is
Vishti is the seventh of the movable karanas. It comes round about eight times a month, each time for roughly ten to twelve hours, and is called Bhadra.
Where it lives
Bhadra is said to live in the heaven, earth or underworld according to the Moon's sign. When the Moon is in Karka, Simha, Kumbha or Meena it lives on Earth; in Mesha, Vrishabha, Mithuna or Vrishchika in Heaven; in Kanya, Tula, Dhanu or Makara in the Underworld.
What to do
Bhadra on Earth is the one traditionally avoided for beginning auspicious work such as marriage, house entry or a journey. When Bhadra lives in heaven or the underworld it is not considered an obstacle. Holika Dahan and Raksha Bandhan are timed around it.
